I am a Glasgow-based artist and writer working predominantly with photography, text and moving image. I’m interested in thinking about all kinds of images, but the type of photographs I’m most invested in are those that are in dialogue with the material aspects of their making.
Primarily using analogue materials, my work positions the three-dimensional world, the interior of the camera and the darkroom as interconnected, revelatory spaces where light is the fundamental, transformational force. I often photograph artefacts, to point back to the photograph-as-object as well as to the ways in which a structure, a system or an object carries within it the political, social and material circumstances of its making, much like a photograph. I rely on instruction and luck, knowledge and revelation.
